Highwire Act - April 14, 2003

For a little while now, I've hinted at a "secret project" or two here at KU-2. These things are finally coming to a head, so I want to give the readers a heads up:

First is a print collection of KU-2. The book is very near completion, and collects the entire first Ku story arc (Strength, Rock Surfing and Mai Tais, Up from the Depths and Hi, Ku!) plus a brand new story that will only appear in the printed book - never here on the website. I'm very excited about this, to say the least! With any luck, the book will be available for purchase from this site in a couple of weeks.

The second secret project needs to remain a secret for a little while longer - but lets just say if you enjoy my comics, you're about to see another regular webcomic from me. This one is a real departure from anything I've done before, and I'm jazzed as hell to tell you about this too!

With all these things on my plate, my workload has been packed to the gills ... and when my computer had some problems on Friday (requiring me to lose a day of work to fix), that was enough to throw my schedule off. Sadly, if I'm going to hit the print deadline for the KU-2 book and the launch date of the new webcomic project, the current KU-2 storyline, Old Haunts, will have to take a week or two off.

I know how much this panics people - but believe me, I couldn't be happier with the way Old Haunts is going, and as soon as I get the other 2 projects out the door, I'm back on OH full force.

Thanks a million for your patience and support of my comics, and I'll talk to you soon!

Logan

Happy Anniversary, MIGRAYN!- March 30, 2003

My buddy Jay Mcleod's webcomic Migrayn just celebrated its 1 year anniversary online, and wrapped up its second 24 page storyline this past week. Jay has an incredibly unique art style that reminds you of skater grafitti, and pop art cartoons - all of which puts a mad spin on the sword & sorcery genre that is Migrayn's home. The story is cool, in your face, FUN comics.

If you're one of the few fans of webcomics who hasn't seen it - get your ass over there NOW and check it out. Mig rocks!

We share the same biology, regardless of ideology. - Sting, "Russians" - March 24, 2003

I have to tell you - this whole war thing is really getting to me. I look at my kids, and I wonder about the state of the world today. A couple of weeks back, I was reading an article on Salon.com about life in Iraq as they were waiting for the shit to hit the fan ... and one of the photos was of three kids playing kickball in the street in Baghdad. The oldest one was right around the same age as my oldest son, Loki, and was tall and lanky just like him. Dressed in jeans and a t-shirt ... he could have been in my son’s kindergarten class.

"God this" and "god that" - we have two religious zealots proclaiming that their imaginary friend will make them each victorious, and all the while it comes down to money and oil.

And despite millions of miles and vastly different ideology, I think it's safe to say that the father of that kid playing kickball in the picture loves his son as much as I do mine.

I want a new planet to live on. A bunch of assholes broke mine.

See ya in seven,

A toast to better days. - March 17, 2003

As I write this, it is late on Sunday night, March 16th. Normally on this date, I'd be looking forward to the next day ... St. Patrick's Day. Annoy the co-workers with hours worth of old Irish music (how many renditions of Danny Boy should one man own?), sprinkled in with some healthy doses of Black 47, House of Pain and of course, The Dropkick Murpheys.

But this year is quite a bit different. All the presidential posturing has been building to a head for quite a while, and I suspect tomorrow's deadline will signal my countries attack on Iraq. Anyone who knows me probably knows my politics, so lets just suffice it to say that I'm feeling anything but happy on the eve of this St. Patrick's Day.

So I'd like to raise a glass in toast. To brighter days. To a quick and peaceful resolution to the Iraqi situation. A toast that the American people might wake up, and realize their so-called leaders don't give a shit about what they have to say. And a prayer for the enlisted servicemen and women and the innocent citizens of Iraq. That there might be some miracle that could prevent two madmen from spilling more blood, all in the name of oil and money.

In a world gone mad it’s hard to think right
So much violence hate and spite
Murder going on all day and night
Due time we fight the non-violent fight.

- The Beastie Boys, "In a World Gone Mad"

Hey, it's really great to be here ... - March 10, 2003

So it took a little while longer than I anticipated, but KU-2: Old Haunts part 2 is finally here. And just in time for our Second Anniversary!

I can't believe that two years ago today KU-2 first appeared on the web with a little story called Strength, Rock Surfing & Mai Tais. We were introduced to an angry, drunken punk rocker from New Jersey, and followed him till he discovered a crashed alien spacecraft. Thus our heroes were born, and they hit the ground running.

"A fun, chaotic blend of humor, sci-fi, horror and slice-of-life" is a phrase that has been used to describe KU-2. Another is "indefinable." (I take that in a good way, thanks). But no matter how you look at it, KU-2 and El Quatro certainly have their appeal. I'm always thrilled with the response I get from my work, and the readers really have shown me how much they enjoy it. I want to thank you for that.

That's why I hate it when other commitments drag me away from the drafting table for long stretches sometimes. I'm sorry the last "break" stretched as long as it did, but rest assured I wasn't sitting on a beach sipping Guinness from a coconut! KU's recent return with Old Haunts is just part of the new stuff you'll be seeing in the days ahead. Stick around - it's gonna be a hell of a time!

See ya in seven!
(Yeah ... I definitely missed saying that)!

Hi there ... remember me? - February 10, 2003

UGH. I hate it when that happens. Apparently in Logan-World, one week is a hell of a long time, eh? Sorry about that, folks.

So just what have I been up to, you might ask? Just wrapping up this:

It was a hell of a lot of fun working with my pal Brian Meredith over at Modern Pulp Comics. The man is not only a great writer of fun comics, but he's just a cool guy ta boot. It was great working with him, and I got to draw mummies, werewolves, vampires and more slash-em-up action that I would in a year of KU-2. Check it out now, you'll be glad you did!

So ... what next? What's on the drafting table? ... WHERE THE %#@& IS MY KU-2?!?

Patience, grasshoppa. Patience!

KU-2: Old Haunts part 2 is well underway, and will be returning to weekly Monday updates very soon. Plus some very cool new comics stuff going on behind the scenes, that I'm just itching to tell you about. Watch this space!
