Happy Holidays! - December 16, 2002

While I spend my Christmas vacation getting caught up on various comic projects, my buddy DAK was cool enough to send me this excellent KU-2 and El Quatro holiday piece!

Thanks, DAK! Have a great holiday season, everyone - and I'll see you in January!

Logan

Weekly Plug: I keep saying that the reason I'm taking December off isn't just for giggles, it's so I can wrap up other comics projects, and the proof is in the puddin! In this case, it is musty 3000 year old green puddin, but ...

Head over to Modern Pulp Comics where writer supreme Brian Meredith and I serve up a 6 page comic called The Harborside Hackers staring Brian's ultra-cool hero from the forgotten age, The Jade Mummy! Part One is live right now, and Part Two will be up in January. ENJOY!

Okay, I take it back. PANIC. - December 9, 2002

The good news: This week's page of KU-2: Old Haunts wraps up part one of the current storyline. I'm very happy with how everything is unfolding so far, and hope you enjoy reading it half as much as I have in bringing it to you!

Now the bad news: page 1 of Old Haunts Part 2 will be hitting the site on Monday, December 2nd - two weeks from today. There are a number of reasons for this, not the least of which include some additional comic art commitments I have currently cooking. I know I usually take a week or two in between story chapters - but believe me when I tell you that I'm going to be spending every available minute of this "break" at the drawing board.

I think you'll be very, very pleased with the results.

Till then, be well - have a great Thanksgiving, and I'll talk to you soon!

Weekly Plug: Mutant chicken superheroes. Evil talking dogs. Proctology gone horribly wrong. These are just a few of the bizarre elements that make up the fabric of Jeff Kidd and Brandon Carr's Crater City. With a healthy archive and steady Tuesday updates, it's a must read in my book!

Your planet is doomed. DOOOMMMED! - November 11, 2002

Needless to say, I'm not thrilled with the results of last week's election, and we'll leave it at that.

Now, go read some comics.

Weekly Plug: I know Mike Pusiteri from the early days of UO's Siege Perilous. While I was wearing DTM green or running with OGD, he was out selling cookies to PKs. (If this makes no sense to you ... well ... like the Chili Peppers said "If you have to ask, you'll never know.")

Anyway, Mike summed up the whole last week thing a hell of a lot better than I can. Check it out in this rant from his Cruft BLOG.

Power to the People - November 4, 2002

Forgive me for a moment if I get serious. I know my readers come here to be entertained, but what good is an opportunity to speak to a large group of people if you don't actually use it on occasion? If you don't want to hear me talk politics, you're welcome to skip this week's Aloha and go straight to the comics with my blessing.

Tomorrow, November 5th, is Election Day here in the States. And I just want to remind any of you of voting age who is registered to please go out and VOTE. Our system only has a snowball's chance in hell of working if we the little people remember to participate. I can't stress how much I mean this.

In the 2000 Presidential election, if just a handful more bored Democrats actually picked their asses up from their comfy chairs in Florida, we wouldn't be in the fucking mess we are in this country with President Un-Elect at the helm, and his band of corporate scavengers picking our bones clean. Bomb Iraq, Dubbyah? How about paying attention to the mess in your own back yard before you go knocking on your neighbor's door?

And before you make any snap judgements about my political affiliations, let me tell you that I have no love whatsoever for the Democratic party in this country. I just loathe the right wing, bible thumping, corrupt Republican party soooo much more. The lesser of two evils, and all that.

See ya in seven,
Logan

Strong words. - October 28, 2002

When I first wrote this page of KU-2: Old Haunts I sat back and looked at the page for a while. There was a scene I wanted to get across to the reader, where I was attempting to capture the random violence and pointless anger of a bar fight. And although I'm happy that I managed to convey that emotion in the finished page, there was a lingering bad taste in my mouth.

Words can hurt. Sometimes a lot. And as a writer, it can become damned uncomfortable putting yourself in the shoes of someone who, for the sake of the story, personifies the darker side of human emotion. Racists. Bigots. Haters. I can write a campy supervillain with a planet-threatening death ray any day of the week or plot the movements of a mindless monster with a thirst for blood, simply because these beings don't exist in the real world. The type of villain from today's page, sadly, is all too real.

I hope I got the point across without sounding too heavy handed. I also sincerely hope I don't offend anyone. But at the end of the day I have to admit, I'm happy with the page.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

That little bit of soul searching out of the way, I just wanted to wish all of you a very happy and healthy Samhain, or Halloween. Whatever way you celebrate it, enjoy yourself.

And save a couple of packs of Smarties for me. Damn, I love those things!

See ya in seven,
Logan

Weekly Plug: In keeping with the holiday season, I wanted to send a shout out to one of the few daily webcomics I make it a point to read: Oh My Gods! by Shivian Montar Balaris. It's a very funny pagan-centric strip that pokes fun at religion, tradition, superstition, icons, and most importantly, itself. Just a damned funny read. Treat yourself to some Samhain sweets over at Shivian's!

Clicky clicky lub. - October 21, 2002

Not a lot to say this week. The 9-to-5 job has been more of a 7am-to-9pm for the last couple of weeks, so it's been kinda hectic here in Casa de KU. Old Haunts is moving along nicely, and the KU-2 Store was very well received, with the KU-2 Retro Lunchbox being the most popular item, far and away. I believe the lunchbox is seasonal, so if you have any intention of picking one up, you might not want to put it off. Big thanks to any of you who bought KU-2 and Protean Void gear - it's always a pleasure to know folks are enjoying the comics!

And hey, one thing you CAN do to support KU-2 that won't cost you a dime is to click on one or both of those VOTE buttons in the column at left each and every week. Both the Top Comic Book and the Top WebComics sites list the highest ranked comics and direct more traffic back here. And when you're crankin' out a free webcomic purely for the love of the artform, increased traffic is always a welcomed reassurance that you're doing something right. :)

Okay, I'm outie. Back to the salt mines.

See ya in seven,
Logan

Weekly Plug: Every once in a while, you come across something that is just refreshingly different. A few weeks back, I was lucky enough to find such a thing in Fiddle and Burn. It's a daily webcomic, updating Monday through Friday. Nothing unique in and of itself there, right? Except as creator Jason Pomerantz describes it, Fiddle and Burn is "A Daily Comic Strip in Prose." What does that mean? No pictures. I have to admit, when I first heard the concept, I was skeptical - but after reading it, I was a doubter no more. It's funny, quirky, and memorable ... all the things a comic strip aspires to be. Go check it out, I think it's well worth the read. Even without pictures.

Misc, etc, etc. - October 14, 2002

I finally got my arse in gear and did some work on the Protean Void Hub site this past week, so there's a couple of disjointed treats out there for all you KU-2 fans:

1) The Protean Void Store is now open for bidness! If you ever had any desire for some KU-2 swag, now's your chance! With everything from a black Protean Void Baseball Cap to Up from the Depths t-shirts, My Black Irish Love beer steins, and a cooler-than-thou KU-2 Retro Lunchbox, it's got everything your twisted little heart desires. PLUS CafePress is currently offering big honkin' discounts on all of its original merchandise! That means a BIG price drop on t-shirts, coffee mugs and the like. Check it out!

2) Son of Cool Links! Once again, I have updated the Protean Void Links page to include some new friends, services, and just plain kickass web comics to the list, as well as adding some new banners for the various Protean Void comics themselves. Enjoy!

See ya in seven,
Logan

Weekly Plug: I've got a whole mess of webcomics and other sites I've been wanting to bring to your attention, but sometimes I just have to repeat myself.

Jay Mcleod's Migrayn just wrapped up the final page of it's origin story, Into the Void, last friday here at our own Protean Void Comics Network. I can't tell you guys enough how jazzed we are to have our old buddy Jay and his ultra-hip, styalized comics here as part of the family, so I'm sure you're thinking "Well, you HAVE to plug it, Logan!" Untrue. I plug Migrayn because I dig Migrayn! It's just a great read, and Jay's work just seems to get better and better with every passing page.

Just yesterday, Jay shot me a sneak peek at the first couple of pages of his next story arc, which launches this coming Friday, and all I've got to say is wow. I was blown away, and you will be too. Check it out now, and don't forget to hit it again on Friday for the beginning of the new story!

All plugs, all the time - October 7, 2002

I love my little opportunity to chat with you peeps every Monday, I really do. I dig the opportunity to spread some news to you, and pass along a plug to another site I think you might like. But sometimes, the comics are so good that the news is the plug.

Plug 1: Last Monday my favorite webcomic updated. I know that "favorite" is a strong word to use when you're a creator yourself, but I challenge you to find a flaw in this excellent comic.

Dewclaw is a science fiction gem that instantly sucks you into an immersive world where an intelligent Canine race is fighting for its very survival against rebel factions in its own midst.

With top notch writing and gorgeous art, you couldn't ask for much more in a free webcomic - but creator Matt Johnson delivers the goods in what I consider to be some of the best use of Flash I've ever seen on a webcomic. Subtle uses of movement to enhance an already beautiful sequential art page show Matt to be a master of the digital medium - it's never gratuitous or overstated. This is Webcomics as its own artform - the child of the printed page, but an entity deserving of it's own recognition.

Plug 2: After a comic like Dewclaw on Monday, the rest of the week's webcomics must be pretty thin by comparison, right? Wrong. Dead wrong. The webcomic's world's hardest working man in showbiz, DJ Coffman, dug one of his oldest, fan-favorite print comic creations this past Friday, and unleashed it upon the unsuspecting web.

Zombieopolis is resurrected as a brand new, serialized original webcomic at MoviePoopshoot.com, that bastion of media review and hype left over from Kevin Smith's movie Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. Although DJ has been doing a lot of great comic work for them for a while now, this is the man at his best - great story, with some of the best art I've ever seen this multi-talented guy produce. Trust me - you'll be hooked from the first page!

The most amazing thing about all this is that it's a serial, meaning that DJ (along with co-writer Bob McDeavitt) is serving up not one page of ghoulish goodness every friday, but an amazing three-to-five PAGES every week! I swear, I don't think the guy has slept since 1998.

And best of all, it's ZOMBIES! I mean, who doesn't love zombies, right?

Okay, that's it for me. Go read this week's installment of Old Haunts, with a cameo by a well-known webcomics
force of nature. Then go enjoy the hell out of Dewclaw and Zombieopolis.

You've got your homework assignment - go!

See ya in seven,
Logan

Yer a right gadge, ye are! - September 30, 2002

This week's page of Old Haunts introduces a character previously unmentioned in the KUniverse: El Quatro's roommate Kennith Bain. Ken is from Scotland, and although I've had a lot of fun writing him, I wanted to try to make sure his slang and overall manner of speach was as close to real as possible.

To this end, I contacted a Scottish cartoonist named James McEwan, or Neomac, as he is known on The Blambot Nexus. A damned talented cartoonist whose work I dig a lot, as well as a very cool guy, James really came through and hooked me up with some great stuff for Ken's dialogue. (For example: in today's page, Ken calls Quatro a "gadge," which means "crazy person." Spot on assessment, I'd say!) Thanks, James!

Hey, you can only watch the Trainspotting DVD just so many times, y'know?

See ya in seven,
Logan

Weekly Plug: On a week like this, who else could I possibly plug, except Kennith Bain's speach coach James McEwan. Go hit James' site, and take a spin around the excellent work he's cranking out right now. Well worth the time and a bookmark - this guy is good!

Sleepy now . - September 23, 2002

Monday morning - time for the big upload. Hurry hurry! Gotta get to the 9-to-5! Ah, crap. I forgot to write this week's ALOHA!

Oops. No babble from me this week. But the page is up, and I'll see you in seven.

Logan

ps: hit that plug for AdventureStrips.com below! I expected great things from my buddy Chris Mills and his team, but their launch last week absolutely blew me away! Well worth the cost of admission. I recommend it highly!

The return of good TV. - September 16, 2002

I'm not a big fan of television. For the most part, it just leaves me cold.

Inane half-hour sitcoms taped over ridiculous laugh-tracks, syrupy over acted implausible dramas (or worse - that horrific hybrid, the "dramedy") - these things really just don't hold my attention. Any time I sit down to watch prime-time television it only frustrates me how that time could be far better spent, as I feel my intelligence ebb away.

Hey, I'm just glad a show worth watching is finally back.

And yeah, maybe I'm a bit partial, 'cause I live in Jersey, and know most of the locations they shoot at.

What. You got a problem with that?

See ya in seven,
Logan

Weekly Plug: Today marks the official launch of a webcomics group I have personally been very excited about. AdventureStrips.com is the first spin-off of the successful Modern Tales comics, one of the first webcomics subscription programs.

A group of extremely talented people from both the print and web comics communities have come together to create the reads at AdventureStrips.com, and the whole shebang is headed up by the talented Chris Mills of Supernatural Crime fame.

Yes, it's a pay comics site. But you get a lot of quality comics for a lot less than you'd pay for their print counterparts.

I'm subscribing, and recommend you check it out, too.

Rolling Requiem. - September 9, 2002

This time last year a lot happened. In my personal corner of the universe, my wife and I were blessed with the arrival of our third child, my baby daughter Rowan. The potential of life and everything that brings happiness seemed all around us.

And then, a few days later, the Towers fell.

A lot of people more educated and eloquent than I am have talked about this for almost a year. It is a permanent scar on our social consciousness - and in a great sense America's innocence died that day. It is a damned big world out there, and like it or not, we are a part of it.

A close friend of mine, John Lyden, is a very talented and operatically trained singer. In addition to his many other projects, he is just one of the talents involved in Rolling Requiem, a project to give honor to those lost on 9/11. I think it is a unique and stirring tribute to those who are gone now, and if you have the opportunity, encourage you to visit their site and see what they are doing this Wednesday.

Logan

Weekly Plug: I first met Jay Mcleod back in the pre-historic days before this website launched, and my only exposure on the web was the graphics I did for a couple of online gaming sites. The other cartoonist was some ultra-styilized guy who called himself migrayn. Working together on a couple of projects, we became fast friends and were surprised to find out we lived around 45 minutes away from each other in New Jersey.

Now, a couple of years later and with the focus of our art changed to webcomics, it was inevitable for Jay and his great comics at migrayn.com to join us here on the Protean Void Comics Network. If you're a fan of sword & sorcery, a fan of cool-assed cartoons with a life of their own, or just a fan of good comics, I suggest you hit migrayn.com every Friday!

Old Haunts on so many levels. - September 2, 2002

Welcome to KU-2 Comics! If you're a new reader - come on in! Kick off your shoes, pour yourself a pint of the good stuff, and dig in. There's a nice chunk of archives here. Enjoy!

If you're a returning friend, I'd like to offer both a welcome back to these familiar grounds, as well as an apology for my long absence. I won't waste your time or whittle away at my dignity with excuses for where I've been or why there haven't been any new comics for the last couple of months. Lets just say that all the other commitments I had to take care of are now put to bed, and I'm thrilled to be rolling up my sleeves and crankin' out the comics for you again. Plan to see new pages of KU-2 Comics here every Monday for a long time to come!

The new storyline, Old Haunts, premiers today - and it's the tale of El Quatro's somewhat less-than-triumphant return to his old stomping grounds of Hoboken, New Jersey, after the life changing events from his Hawaiian vacation with his newfound Alien Android buddy close behind him. The surroundings may be familiar, but something is very unsettling …

Coming back here to make the comics I love feels like returning to my Old Haunts as well - but believe me, unlike El Quatro, I welcome the return with a smile.

Thanks for reading! I'd love to hear what you think of the return on our new forums, and I'll see you in 7 days.

Logan DeAngelis

Weekly Plug: What ... Still plugging these guys? Yup. My buddies in "round headed comicness" over at Q-Balls are relaunching today as well. New site design, new comics, new forum ... the works. Swing by and check it out!

Gone fishin. - April 22, 2002

Wow. Feels like ages since I said ALOHA to all my friends here in the KUniverse! I've been getting a lot of work done on my break between KU-2 stories, and look forward to kicking off the next story line soon.

In the meanwhile, why not take a trip down memory lane with me to 1979, before KU-2 was born. A time when a 10 year old Logan was crankin' out the mini comic adventures of ... The Shadowed Man! Guest commentary by by buddy Chuck "Q-Balls" Morrison.

Talk to ya soon!
Logan

Weekly Plug: It's four times the Quantum Foam Fun with Los Bros Morrison (and redheaded stepchild Morripagliason), with the adventures of Quantum, Invisoblaster, Megaball and Quantum Foamies at the one and only Q-Balls.com! ... for the love of god, don't forget the hyphen!

April Fools? - April 1, 2002

UGH. What a week. What a month. The workload at my 9-to-5 have been roughly doubled for the last month, and keeping my KU deadlines has been difficult to say the least. (Especially since this week's page is 2 days late!) One more time, all apologies for the delay. I hate missing a deadline, believe it or not, and had been pretty happy that this short storyline would be finished on time. Ah well.

But hey, the good news is the page is done - you can go read the conclusion to the latest in the KU-2 story, Hi, Ku! in all it's glory! This short has been a bit of a departure from what came before, but I had a hell of a lot of fun with it. Big ups to my co-conspirator and all around POA, my lovely and talented wife Jodi for her assist in scripting the haiku for the story. Love ya, hon!

So, what's on the horizon? Quite a bit, actually.

First off, as is my habit, KU-2 will be taking a little break before the next story kicks off. I'll take the next couple of weeks to wrap up the Protean Void hub site finally, and get a head start on the next Ku story, so I canhopefully keep to my normal schedule of a new page every Monday.

In the meantime, updates will continue every Wednesday at Mr. E's Cartoonin.com as we continue his Ghetto Trading Cards series, and rumor has it the next issue of The Shadowed Man may rear it's ugly head in the next week or so. Watch this space for details!

And before you know it, KU-2 will return with its 4th story arc, as El Quatro returns to Jersey after his Hawaii vacation with his new alien buddy, and can't help feeling like an outsider in his old stomping grounds in a tale called "Old haunts."

Talk to ya next week!
Logan

Weekly Plug: This week saw the launch of what I have to say is one of the best resouce sites I've ever seen for Indie and Web comics, The Small Press Magazine. Featuring news, reviews, articles and contests by and for the indie comics community, I give TSP my highest recommendation. (And I'm not just saying that because their first webcomic review was of this site!) Check it out now!

Missed it by THAT MUCH! - March 26, 2002

The last 3 weeks at my 9-to-5 have been more like 7am-to-10pm, and weekends little more than a memory of yesteryear. Still, I wanted to keep on schedule with my Monday updates here at KU-2 ...

Ah well. You know what they say about the best laid plans, right? This Monday's update comes 24 hours late - but at least it wasn't a full week.   :)

See you next week for the conclusion of Hi, Ku!

Logan

Weekly Plug: With a weekly installment of KU-2 like this one, it somehow seemed only natural that the weekly plug point to my man Lightfoot's comic, Pulse, the Blue Bombshell! Cool comics, adventure ... and really really large breasts. Check it out now!

Mine's a Pint. - March 18, 2002

Busy BUSY little Logan these days, folks. I've been keeping just one step ahead of the Sheriff in getting your weekly dose of KU-2 to you, but unfortunately dropped the ball this past Wednesday when I failed to update Mr. E's Cartoonin.com. In switching gears between his run of Charlie Black strips and the upcoming Ghetto Trading Cards, I forgot I had planned a week intermission to tweak the site and get the cards all web-ready. My bad, and the new stuffs will appear this week!

And somehow I let last Monday pass without wishing all my peeps a happy St. Patrick's Day, and dropping the obvious link for My Black Irish Love. I hope everyone had a few pints of the dark stuff and some home-made corned beef. I know I did!

Slante!
Logan

Weekly Plug: It's a rare occurance that I stumble across a webcomic that pulled me in as much as Matt "Akita" Johnson's fantastic comic DewClaw. From the original concept and story to the beautiful art and design - DewClaw truly stands out as my fave new read of 2002. Go check it out now!

Happy Birthday to KU! - March 11, 2002

One year ago this week, a little web comic called KU-2 made its first appearance online.

An odd tale about a punk from New Jersey and a childlike alien android from the stars, KU-2 is all about bringing the fun back to comics, at a time when the genre is too bogged down with gun-toting "heroes" and borderline pornstar "bad-girls."

Currently in the middle of it's third story arc, the comic plans to stick around and entertain its loyal readers for many more Mondays to come.

Thanks for reading KU-2. It's you readers that make it all worthwhile!

See you next Monday,
Logan DeAngelis

Weekly Plug: Okay, so it's self-indulgent - but I just wanted to take the time to once again direct your attention to the other two comics on the Protean Void network: Mr. E's Cartoonin.com and my own sword-and-sorcery tale, Wyrms.

This Wednesday kicks off a new arc of comics from Cartoonin, as Mr. E brings it back to the streets with his Ghetto Trading Cards - they're a must see!

Updated Fridays, Wyrms is currently at the half-way point in it's introductory story, as the young Shamus steals away in the dead of night to attempt to rescue the tormented Dragonpriest Choqua. If you haven't taken a look at Wyrms yet, it's a pretty interesting departure from my work here at KU-2. Hope you enjoy!

Chibi Chibi! - March 4, 2002

Wow!
I’m posting this week’s ALOHA a day late, thanks to how busy I’ve been at my 9-to-5 job, and I just have to say that it looks like the readers are really enjoying Hi, Ku! This week’s page has gotten more response than I expected - it's great to see that folks are enjoying it.

A while back, once I had the whole story plotted out, my beautiful wife Jodi and I sat down with a bottle of wine to jam-script the Haiku stuff - it was really a lot of fun! That’s the reason for her credit on page one - although she deserves a co-creator credit for everything I do - she's so utterly supportive of my webcomic work. Love ya, honey!

It's a hoot to wrap up something like Up from the Depths, and just throw down a goofy little romp like Hi, Ku! As I always say, I'm simply having the time of my life with this - telling the stories I've wanted to for so long - and I'm thrilled all of you are enjoying coming along for the ride each week.

Lots more fun to come!

Logan

Weekly Plug: My buddy Jay "Migrayn" Mcloud has fired up his site Migrayn.com for another round of cool web comics! Check out his unique style stuff with the ongoing Little Green Men, cool gaming character sketches, and whatever comic industry and gaming rants spill out of his fevered brain at any given moment!

Chuck Jones 1912-2002 - February 25, 2002

Picked up from one of my favorite sites, The Internet Movie Database:

Chuck Jones, one of the most influential animators and animation directors of all time, passed away February 22nd, in Corona Del Mar, CA, of congestive heart failure. He was 89. If you ever spent Saturday morning with "The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Hour," or waited in trepidation and joy for "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," sang "I'm going to kiiiill the waaa-bbit!" or rejoiced over "the Aludium Q-36 explosive space modulator" you probably owe a great debt of gratitude to Jones. It was under his watch that the Warner Bros. cartoons transcended the mere "loony" and reached human proportions. With Jones, Daffy Duck became a greedy, thoroughly despicable, fully understandable scoundrel, and Bugs Bunny fought for the little guy against the big brute, even if he couldn't find his way to the Coachella Carrot Festival...therein. Jones also created the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote, Marvin the Martian, Pepe le Pew, Sam Sheepdog (and his co-worker RalphWolf) and Michigan J. Frog. Jones won many accolades during his full life, though Jones felt the very work he did was reward enough. In his autobiography, Chuck Amuck Jones said: "...if you are in that trade of helping others to laugh and to survive by laughter, then you are privileged indeed." Thanks Chuck; the privilege was ours.

Chuck Jones was one of my favorite cartoonists, and without a doubt my favorite animator. We lost one of the greats this weekend, folks.

Logan

Weekly Plug: It seems a bit odd for me to plug User Friendly by Illiad, mainly because it's probably one of the most popular comics on the web. But when my friend Jiff pointed out to me Illiad's touching tribute to Chuck Jones, I just had to pass it along. It sums it up perfectly.

Hubba Hubba - February 18, 2002

At long last, the Protean Void hub site has finally gotten some attention. Although it's a far cry from finished, the bare bones of it are up. Finally more than a blank, black page with a pic of KU-2 and Mr. E's Ghetto Tales, you can now hit the PV site for a quick jump to any of the 3 weekly Protean Void Comics.

I'm currently in the process of moving the current KU-2 Links and Logan pages over there, as well as all the archived Short Stories (which really had nothing to do with KU-2 in the first place). There are new links I'm adding as well - sorry to all the folks I've been speaking with who I haven't gotten around to linking yet - it's on it's way! And some cool-as-hell new art for the Guest Artist Gallery.

As much as the PV site will be your jumping off point for KU-2, Cartoonin and Wyrms, I'll continue to just run my mouth off here. I dig the little soapbox this Aloha strip affords me, and will yap at you every Monday for as long as you care to read it.

Talk to ya in a week,
Logan

Weekly Plug: Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday Ron Marshall brings us the cartoon grind of big-city Police Detectives. Check out Ronski's tweaked humor and a damned funny comic strip at Public Eyes!

Deja vu & Hi, KU! - February 11, 2002

Hey, folks! If you're a reader of the Protean Void Forum, you know that I was knocked on me arse last week with a particularly nasty flu. I made certain that this didn't stop my intended release dates of any of the Protean Void Comics, including the first page of the new KU-2 storyline - but the end result was less than spectacular to me. I hated that Hi, Ku! launched with little fanfare and with the old Up from the Depths homepage in place. So this week corrects that.

Take it from the top! Welcome to the first installment of the new KU-2 storyline: Hi, Ku! It's a fun romp, and a nice departure from the heavy monstrous stuff in Depths. It also wraps up our heroes stay in Hawaii, so stick around and enjoy - there's a lot of cool stuff on the horizon!
I also hope you've been enjoying the other 2 weekly Protean Void comics:

Wednesdays we've got Efrem Alston's Cartoonin.com featuring Charlie Black, with some old school inner city flava.

Friday was the premier of my own Wyrms: Zero - a sword and sorcery tale in a darker style than KU-2.

And while Ku was away in January, I hope you read and enjoyed another visit to my comic book childhood with issue 2 of The Shadowed Man!

With any luck the all new Protean Void hub site will be up and running this week so you can keep track of any new goings on with all of the above.

Thanks for reading!
Logan DeAngelis

Hi, KU! - February 4, 2002

Hey everybody! It's been a heck of a few weeks since I spoke at ya last, and it's REALLY great to be back!

This week kicks off page one of the new KU-2 storyline: Hi, Ku! It's a fun little romp that I've been having a blast with, and I hope you dig it too.

I'd love to hang out and yap with ya now, but I'm sick as a dog - flu has put me out of comission for the last few days - which explains why the Depths front page is still live, even though the new story is running. I'll get all that fixed by next Monday's update ...

Talk to you soon!
Logan

KU-2: Up from the Depths concludes! - January 7, 2002

Thanks for joining me today for what feels like a real achievement in my comics work - the conclusion of KU-2: Up from the Depths. This has been the longest and most ambitious story I have ever attempted, and I couldn't possibly be more proud of the results. But I didn't do it alone.

None of this website or any of my comic work would be possible without the encouragement of my beautiful wife and three great kids. It takes a lot of time to make comics, and I'm lucky enough that I have a rare family that wants to see me make those comics almost as much as I want to make them. I humbly dedicate Depths to them.

Just as important to the creation of this comic is you. Every day the readers inspire me to keep going, weave new tales, and push my artistic limits just a little more. I can't tell you how much the support and reaction from all of you have helped inspire me whenever I need that extra push. I feel just like Sally Field … "You like me … you really like me!" (No, Virginia, Sally Field never drew comic books).

To all the other cartoonists I've gotten to be friends with over the last year, I have to thank you as well. You talented folks took me in as one of your own and made a newbie feel like he had a place in the grand scheme of things. I can't think of a more talented and supportive group to be a part of.

This marks the conclusion of KU-2: Up from the Depths, but it is by no means the end. Waiting in the wings are more tales of weirdness, punks and alien funk - and I can't wait to bring them to life for you.

For the next couple of weeks, KU-2 is taking a break, as I get a head-start on the next story arc. I hate missing deadlines, and if at all possible I'd really like to get a nice stockpile of pages completed before launching again.

But fear not! Just because KU-2 and El Quatro are going to be kicked back on the beach sipping Mai Tais, there is no reason you shouldn't get your Monday Comics Fix! Starting next Monday, and running for the duration of the KU-2 break, will be the return of the most requested comic from last year's Shorts! Join us here next week for Shadow-Man #2, Showdown with the Living Demon!

And to give you a little more info on what else is coming up from Protean Void Comics, you'll be seeing the relaunch of Mr. E's Cartoonin.com with all new material. Want more? How about another weekly webcomic featuring the character you saw a glimpse of in the recent Short We are the Playthings of the Gods. And last but not least the new and greatly improved Protean Void site, which will act as a hub to all of these and KU-2, too.

So go visit us on the Forum and say hey. Let me know what you thought of Depths and the first year of KU-2 Comics. And I'll see you back here in 7 days with more Shadow Man!

All the best,
Logan
