Happy New Year! - December 31, 2001

KU-2 is back from it's Holiday break, and it feels great! I hope everyone had a fantastic yuletide celebration (of whatever variety it is you celebrate), and has a fun New Years Eve tonight!

New Year - damn. How did 2001 go by so fast?

This time last year I had just gotten Scott McCloud's book Reinventing Comics for Christmas, which planted the seed in my fevered brain to take my comics to the web. And with much excitement on my part and a few months of preparation, this website was born. I couldn't be enjoying myself more, writing and drawing the adventures of KU-2 and El Quatro, and I really look forward to bringing them to you in 2002!

Speaking of being born, 2001 also saw the birth of my third child, my daughter Rowan. Finally a little girl to go with the two boys, completing the set. My comics and everything I do is dedicated to my wonderful wife and beautiful kids who make all of this possible for me. Love you guys!

September 2001 also brought tragedy on an unthinkable scale to our lives. But the aftermath of that tragedy showed us the strength of the human spirit and brotherhood we can feel as a people. My heartfelt thanks to all the very real heroes out there.

Hey, before I forget, go check out the last couple of strips from Nate Piekos' Back Issues at good old Blambot Comic Fonts! I did the guest art chores, and really enjoyed working with Nate. The man is a consummate professional, and has given so much to the Indie and Webcomic communities with his top-notch free comic book fonts for cartoonists.

Next week, KU-2: Up from the Depths concludes! And some more very interesting stuff starts coming atcha from Protean Void Comics.

Talk to ya then!

Weekly Plug: All this month I'm going to continue to plug away at Brandon Carr's brilliant Between the Panels, the comic that interviews other comic characters. It's one of my fave reads online, and this month features a two-part interview with our very own KU-2 and El Quatro! Find out tons of behind-the-scenes info and sneak peaks at what's coming up here at KU-2 Comics!well, not really … but there is a lot of @#$%ing cursing!

Christmas Distractions (or: pay no attention to my screwup, part 3)December 18, 2001

WOW.
The holiday season really crept up on me, and sent our fave Hawaiian comic characters on yet another page-delay. I couldn't feel more terrible about this folks, but it was beyond my control, and I have no intention of rushing the dramatic conclusion to the current storyline.

In the meantime, Part 2 of the KU-2 and El Quatro interview at Brandon Carr's Between the Panels is now live! Go check it out!

KU-2: Up from the Depths will continue next Monday, with page 24. Promise.

And now, here's KU-2 & El Quatro wishing you a very merry ...

CYA!

Look, over THERE! (or: pay no attention to my screwup, part 2) - December 11, 2001

From the Day-Late-and-a-Dollar-Short Dept:
Sorry for the 24 hour delay in this week's page, folks. Looks like getting everything together for last week's Ku-2 & El Quatro interview at Brandon Carr's Between the Panels wound up setting my schedule off more than I expected. It's a drag to post late under any circumstances, but especially now, with Up from the Depths in it's last pages, it bums me out.

So I make this pledge to YOU, gentle reader: I VOW to keep KU-2 on schedule for the rest of this calendar year!      :)

To make up for the delay, I'm proud to be posting our last Short for the year. This is a glimpse into the mind of a fictional character - my murderous old Yuan Ti warrior-mage from Dungeons & Dragons in high school, a gentleman named Draegar. The story, We are the Playthings of the Gods, dates back almost 10 years and is in a great sense a sneak-peak into some new stuff that will be coming your way in 2002 from Protean Void Comics. I hope you enjoy!

See you next week for the conclusion of KU-2: Up from the Depths!

Look, over THERE! (or: pay no attention to my screwup) - December 3, 2001

I closed last week’s ALOHA! With the following statement: FYI Dept: Finally a new Short coming next week, as we jump back on schedule for the beginning of December.

Oops! The new Short is finished, but completely slipped my mind as I was getting the week’s KU-2 update web-ready. So I beg your patience, gentle reader, and there’ll be a new Shortie-Dog for you next week, 12/10. PROMISE!

In the meantime, why not bop on over and check out Brandon Carr’s brilliant webcomic Between The Panels. BTP is one of my fave reads online because it’s not some silly site where they interview the cartoonists (who cares what we have to say anyway?) – at BTP Brandon’s characters interview the characters from other comics! It’s a great concept with flawless execution, and I’m not just saying it because BTP’s Iago is interviewing El Quatro and KU-2 later this week …

So go now and read the BTP Archive stories featuring interviews with The Savage Dragon, Quantum of Q-Balls fame, and Those Darn Mormons. It’ll whet your appetite for the upcoming Luau with our KU-2 crew!

See ya next week here with more Up from the Depths and a new Short, and later this week at Between The Panels!

Weekly Plug: Come on, like the above rave about Between the Panels wasn't enough for you?!? Go read it, already!

Good news, bad news ... - November 26, 2001

So I goes to the doc and I says, "Doc," I says, "My toe is … cough … purple and … cough … hurts like hell." Long story short, I do indeed have a broken toe, and Bronchitis! So I spent the long holiday weekend chugging Codine-full cough syrup. Mmmm … Codine and Turkey!

I’ve also had a few people ask me how I broke my toe, and after I told the story most people’s reaction was "Man, that is SO lame … you’d better make something up!" So if you were wondering how I hurt my foot, it happened when I kicked the ass of the last guy who asked too many damned questions.

FYI Dept: Finally a new Short coming next week, as we jump back on schedule for the beginning of December.

Gotta go … sleepy now …
Logan

Weekly Plug: Taking a break from just plugging the comics this week, I’d like to direct your attention to one of the coolest webcomic resources around. Comics2U is like an online webcomic subscription service – check em out, and you can sign up for free to have some top notch comics delivered to your email every day!

Toot that horn! - November 19 2001

Wow. KU-2 recently got a really great review in a Seattle-based indie newspaper called TEKBUG. TEKBUG has a regular column called "Strip Club," in which a couple of writers review different online comics. Last week TEKBUG #6 hit the stands with a Strip Club review of ku-2.com, and the review was nothing short of glowing! As a number of personal friends of mine have commented, "Oh good! Just what Logan needs – a bigger ego!"

If you live in Seattle, go pick up a copy of TEKBUG. You can also check em out online or go directly to their Issues page and download the most recent issue (#6) to check it out. The review of KU-2 is on page 15, and you'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader or a PDF compatible browser to read it. Special shout out to Brian Meredeth for all the kind words!

As an aside, I just wanted to drop some more TV knowledge: Saturday’s premier of The Justice League on Cartoon Network was great! As a fan of the League since the 70s, I think they did a fantastic job of bringing them to the animated format, and forever buried The Super Friends.

Finally, I think I broke my toe on Sunday. More on this news as it develops!

With a big head and purple toe, limping off into the sunset ...
Logan

Weekly Plug: Three days a week, Jim Zubkavich makes miracles. Updated Monday, Wednesday and Friday, The Makeshift Miracle is a beautifully drawn, captivating story - and must-read webcomic. Part two just kicked off, and you can catuch up with part one in his archives very quickly. Enjoy!

Potato - November 12, 2001

Back from a one-week pause, KU-2: Up from the Depths gets pretty grim this week, as things really start to hit the fan. Hang onto your seats, folks - it's a fast ride from here to the conclusion in a few short weeks!

In other news, I've been really impressed with this fall's new TV lineup. Any of you who know me are aware of the fact that I really have very little faith in the televised mass-medium, and little patience for 99% of the crap they broadcast. But with shows like The Tick, 24 and Enterprise (mmmmm … Blaylock!) as well as the impending premier of the new Justice League on Cartoon Network, I'm turning into a regular couch potato.

The only good side to this new and unexpected TV jones I''m feeling is TIVO. Man, I love that thing! At least I can watch these shows when I have the time, and don't have my day to day schedule dictated by some jackass network executive. And thankfully the premier of The X-Files last night was awful, so I can scratch that from my viewing schedule. Another hour a week of my life recovered!

See you next week ... if TIVO lets me ...
Logan

Weekly Plug: Seth Teter is one cool cartoonist who is making a splash with Flash. I'm not always the biggest fan of animating comics (because when does a comic book or strip become an animated cartoon, after all?) - but Seth walks this thinnest line perfectly, creating some dynamite and captivating comics over at Electric Chicken.com. Playing right now: The Firefly - and it's a recommended read. Go now, Electric Chickens!

INTERMISSION- November 5, 2001

Lets all go to the lobby,
lets all go to the lobby,
lets all go to the lobby,
and get ourselves a treat!

It’s a one-week planned pause in the storyline, cliffhanging as the Kiapolo rises up behind the unwitting Maxie Ho. Be here next week for the explosive conflict, as KU-2: Up from the Depths races toward it’s exciting conclusion (just a few short weeks to go!)

See you next Monday!

Happy Samhain - October 29, 2001

Despite the completely disgusting, Tales from the Crypt-parody nature of this month's Short, I really do love Halloween. From the days when we were wrapped in nylon jumpsuits with screenpainted Superman or Batman costumes on them, shaking down the neighbors for sugary crap, to the booze-hazed costume parties of college and beyond - this has always been my favorite holiday.

Generations ago, people used to believe that on this holiday the borders between the spirit world and our world were at their thinnest. Those departed would walk the earth once more, perhaps searching for someone in the waking world to communicate with, or visit loved ones left behind. The wearing of ghost costumes came about when villagers wanted to escort their departed guests back to their rightful resting places.

The day, called Samhain by pagans and wiccans in centuries past through today, is one of their most revered holy days. If you’d like to learn more about the origins of this very special holiday, I highly recommend Peg Aloi’s article "You call it Hallowe’en … we call it Samhain."

Have a safe, happy and healthy Samhain. Remember fondly those who have passed, and save some candy apples for me.
Logan

Weekly Plug: Keeping in touch with the spirit of the holiday (no pun intended) I'd like to direct your attention to Jeff Zugale's Pagan City Comics and his fantastic Mystic for Hire. Set in a world where magic and mysticism go hand in hand with today's technologies, Rachel Danara is a freelance hero instilled with the powers of Chaos Magic, out to stop the evil mages, necromancers and werewolves who plague her world. Great art, endearing storytelling and a fun read. Enjoy!

Horror Comics by El Quatro - October 22, 2001

I'm a Halloweenie. This is my favorite time of year. Ever since I was a kid, I'd count the days till October 31st would roll around so I could get dressed up in some funky costume and act like a jackass (as opposed to dressing normally and acting like a fool, which I do the other 364 days of the year).

I'm also a huge fan of the classic EC Comics - you know, the original Tales from the Crypt, The Vault of Horror and all that. So it had always been a desire of mine to do a parody comic paying tribute to those brilliant old horror tales.

With an intro like that, I can't believe that I'm now going to point you in the direction of this month's Short.

Back in 1991 I was in college, and actually looked like the El Quatro character from KU-2. Acted a bit like him too, and certainly had the same attitude. And that, as luck would have it, is when I decided to make my EC parody comic. For anyone reading this who didn't know me back then, my sincerest apologies.

For your punkin-headed-pleasure, I now present Really Creepy Shit Horror Comics by El Quatro.

Just another Mouldy Old God,
Logan

Weekly Plug: Speaking of creepy stuff, every week Chris "Crimeboss" Mills and veteran comics artist Joe Staton serve up a ghoulish helping of horror and hard-boiled suspense in the pulp comics masterpiece Femme Noir over at Supernatural Crime. A murderous thug back from the dead? Just another day in Port Nocturne. Go get an eyefull, ya lousy bum!

Web Cartoonists develop new fetish? - October 15, 2001

Like any good long-range project, KU-2 is created well in advance of the date it goes live here on the website. At this point, the storyline is written far beyond Up from the Depths, and a couple of other KU-2 projects (which are, for now, top seekret) have the writing chores wrapped up as well. I also like to keep about a month or so ahead on the artwork, but that can fluctuate based upon how busy my day-to-day life is.

The reason I'm sharing this with you is not to give you a fun glimpse into the creative dynamic behind the artistic process in creating a webcomic. It's to try to explain the boobs.

But rather than actually explain it, I'll show you instead. Go read this week's installment of KU-2: Up from the Depths. I'll wait. Hmm hmm hmmmm. There, wasn't that great? But wait - now go read my buddy Nate Piekos' twice-a-week strip Back Issues. Notice a common theme here? No, this does not mean that Nate and I are peeking into each other's sketchbooks. No, there is no unexpected team-up between KU-2 & Mike Campion coming up. The common elements in both these strips can mean only one thing:

Web cartoonists get some perverse pleasure out of drawing creepy old naked women.

Talk to you next week, I have to go call my shrink.

Geriatrically yours,
Logan

Weekly Plug: Mike Paglia is the twisted genius behind such oddities as Sam Cam Adventures (photo-cartoon absurdity!) and The Gorilla Milkshake (with interviews with some of today's hottest web cartoonists). But he also makes the very twisted and very cool Those Darn Mormons comic, and updates at least a couple of times a week. Mike currently has TDM doing a parody … kind of … of Up from the Depths! So if you want a great laugh with some pretty recognizable themes and just a splash of halftone dots, go read TDM: Up from the Baptismal at One Less Sock Comics now!

Dawning of a Dark Age - October 8, 2001

Tomorrow is the release of what many of my fellow gaming geeks in the MMOG community would call TNBT (The Next Big Thing). It seems like more and more of these Massive Multiplayer Online Games are launching, and I for one will be curious to see which ones make it through their virtual infancy.

I cut my teeth in the online-gaming world in Ultima Online. I played it for years, bringing with me into that virtual landscape half-a dozen of my real-world friends, and making dozens more in the almost four-years I played the game. Within that time I played on both Catskills and the PvP-intensive Siege Perilous. From there I did a brief but very enjoyable stint in Asheron's Call, and was among the first American Beta testers of Anarchy Online. I've led many a virtual life.

Tomorrow the worlds of Albion, Hybernia and Midgard open for the first day of the Dark Age of Camelot. My old Guild from UO has gathered, and awaits entrance to their new homeworld. I'm really looking forward to this one.

But prithee, worry not. I promise you, o faithful Ku fan, that I shall n'er let this passtime come betwixt me and mine art. Verily, I shall deliver unto thee new pages from the life-book of KU-2, and …

Damnit. I'm roleplaying again, aren't I?

See thee in Camelot!
Logan

Weekly Plug: In a seedy corner of the web there's a gang o' art-thugs dishing out a pulpy helpin' of tales sure to smack you in the kisser like a knuckle sandwich. Check out the newly launched, and damned entertaining, Modern Pulp Comics featuring Sprecken in The Case of Carcupio's Contraband with words by Brian "Micro Brew" Meredith and pictures by Dangerous Dan Larson (of Stickman fame). And don't miss Brian's newest contributions to our own KU-2 Guest Artist Gallery! Don't make me tell ya twice, punk!

Gallery Show! (cocktail weenies & umbrella drinks to be served later) - October 1, 2001

Do you remember the first of Octember? (Okay, I still read too much Dr. Seuss - so sue me, Sue Snue). With the first update of a new month, you're probably hankerin' for a hunka comics - traditionally, this is the day that we here at KU-2.com throws you that bonus Short Story. But with the very difficult time all of us had last month, I couldn't bring myself to retire Heroes to the Shorts Archives section yet. So for the next couple of weeks, Heroes will continue to occupy the Shorts spot (but coming up in time for Halloween is a Short that is a personal fave of mine, so sit tight).

So what do I have for you? How about new top-notch webcomics and resources added to the Links page. Not enough? Then take a gander at two new Logan illustrations in The Gallery. You still want more?!? Good thing I saved the best for last: go check the ultra-cool, brand-spankin'-new Guest Artist Gallery with no less than 9 kickass renditions of KU, Quatro and even Shadow-Man! What's that, you say? Still not enough? … Bite me.

Enjoy the new stuffs, and I'll babble at you next week!

Weekly Plug: It's the coolest of the cool in webcomics resources, crank up your Realplayer and head on over to Joey Manley's Talk About Comics where you can listen to weekly interviews with the top talent in webcomics. The show must go on. - September 24, 2001

A lot of people are having trouble in their daily lives in the aftermath of the tragic events of Tuesday, September 11th. Not just those who knew people who worked at the World Trade Center or The Pentagon, or were on one of those commercial flights which were used as weapons against us that day. Under the surface of the American, and indeed the global consciousness, there is sadness and frustration - and yes, anger.

Many people are having trouble just going through the motions of their daily lives for purely emotional reasons. And many more are being affected by the rippling effect the attack on our nation has caused in unforeseen economic ways. But we as a people have only lost if we give up hope. And it has become damned apparent in the last few weeks that hope is something we have in abundance.

My thoughts, hopes and (in my own fashion) prayers go out to not only the friends and families of the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks, but to each and every person reading this. Be strong. Be good to each other. Rise above the potential for mob hysteria, and respect your fellow Americans regardless of their lineage. And I'll talk to you again next Monday.

Logan

Weekly Plug: Check out Nate Piekos' brilliant Back Issues, an online comic about the life and times of Mike Campion, an indie comic book writer/artist. It's an hilarious look at our favorite medium from a tweaked insider's perspective, and a new favorite of mine! Updated every Wednesday and Saturday.

What a difference a week makes. - September 17, 2001

Last Monday I proudly announced the birth of my new baby daughter here in this space. Less than 24 hours later, I stared in shock and disbelief with the rest of America at the horrific images from New York and Washington DC.

Be good to each other. Be strong. Have pride and faith in your country and it's leaders that they will do what's right. Recognize that Arab-Americans are not your enemies. And be well till we see this thing through.

A new little alien has arrived ... - September 10, 2001

Last Thursday, September 6th at 2:02 pm, my beautiful wife and I were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Rowan. Weighing in at 8 pounds, 6 ounces, and sporting a spider-web shaped birthmark on her hip, the entire DeAngelis family is thrilled with our latest, beautiful addition!

She joins big brothers Loki (4) and Griffin (2) in making my life so much more worthwhile, and so much more interesting. Welcome to the world, sweetheart!

Splash! - September 3, 2001

Heya, Ku-fans!
Some minor (mostly cosmetic) site changes this week, including the new homepage you’re viddying right this moment – featuring KU-2 vs the Kiapolo from last week’s Up from the Depths page. I figured that pic summed up the Depths storyline in one graphic shot pretty well, so why not put it on the "cover"?

In addition to this week’s Depths, it’s the first Monday of September, which means time for a new Monthly Short. This month’s piece is my contribution to this past week’s ALTBRAND Comics MDA WebComic Telethon. The cartoonists at Altbrand are a great group of guys who put together a really cool online telethon to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and had some of the top cartoonists on the web donate their time and efforts to raising money for his very worthy cause. Although the Altbrand Telethon is over, I encourage you to make a small donation to MDA if you feel moved to do so after reading this month’s short, entitled Mikey.

And if you get a second, check out the once-again-updated Links page, with even more web-comic goodness added this week!

See ya in tha funny papers,

Logan

Don’t call it a comeback! - August 27, 2001

Hey, it’s really great to be here!
As most of you know, we were on an unexpected vacation for the last two weeks here at Ku-2.com (and our buddy Mr. E’s site Cartoonin.com). We packed up and moved hosts and most of the delays were on the part of some seriously pokey DNS changes. Mad props to The Frymaster over at our new host, Deep Fried Comics, for all the work he put in to make this go so easily for us. You da man, Fry-Guy!

I also just want to take the opportunity to thank our former host, Evilseed of the United Online Entertainment Network, for the really fine hosting we’ve had since KU-2 launched back in March. Evil and his whole crew were always great to us, and it was a hard decision to leave them. But UOE is a gaming network, and DFC is a web comics network – so in the end I went to where I felt we fit in best. Thanks again, Evilseed – and I’ll see you in Shadowbane!

The last big BIG thanks this week goes out to my beautiful wife, Jodi. The classic "woman behind the man," she is always my most supportive fan in everything I do. Even now, with just a week or two to go until she pops with Loganspawn III, she was happy to help me out with research on the pages I’m currently working on, and generous with all the time that artwork requires. You’re the best, baby!

On deck for next week: some minor site redesign, a new monthly short story (as Shadow-Man retires to the Archives), and maybe some more cool stuff.

See ya in 7 days!

Logan

The Return of Shadow-Man. - August 5, 2001

It was 1979, and I was 10 years old.

I was that obsessive, loud little kid who didn’t want to go outside and play. The one who watched too much TV, read hundreds of comic books, and was always drawing. It was inevitable that I eventually create my own mini-comics. Shadow-Man #1 was the first of these, and before I stopped drawing them (and the rest of the OD Comics line), there were no less than 87 full issues.

Cliched and simplistic, the recent discovery of a shoebox full of these pages of yesterday nevertheless show a passion for a medium that I carry to this day, and are a window into a very special time in my childhood. I hope you get a laugh out of seeing this very early attempt at my comics. I know I sure did!

Ladies and Gentlemen: I give you Shadow-Man.

Yo, haole ... - July 30, 2001

From the Props Where Props is Due dept. here at the Protean Void home office, I just want to send out a big word of thanks to Kevin Kalahiki from kalahiki.com for some local flavor assist in the script on this week’s KU-2 page. Kevin is an illustrator and graphic designer who I came into contact with through the Circlecomics forums, and has been most cool in sharing his thoughts about growing up in Hawaii with some annoying cartoonist from New jersey.

Thanks, Kev – this week is for you.

And Props pt.2 go out to The Frymaster over at Deep Fried Comics, home of the brand spankin' new KU-2 Forums! If you dig comics, especially Indie and Web Comics, stop by Deep Fried and check out whats cookin'!

Cause I wanna beeee - ANARCHY! - July 23, 2001

Every time I think I’m out, they keep pullin’ me back in!

Any of you kind readers who have perused the "About Logan" page here at KU-2.com already know that I’m a bit of a gaming geek. Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, Ultima Online, and Mage Knight (just to name a few) have at one point or another been a real drain on my time, wallet and sanity. Thankfully, I’ve gotten past a lot of that, and most of my free time is dedicated to comics and my oft neglected yet ever supportive family.

But here we go again.

Anarchy Online is the newest of the MMOGs (Massive Multiplayer Online Games … but as the song says, "If you have to ask, you’ll never know) – and the first in a sci-fi setting. Instead of wizards and trolls, knights and swords, this is a far future world of evil corporations, nano-technology, and big friggin guns. The graphics are simply AMAZING, and once again I find myself killing some time (and some other players) in a different world.

So if any of you reading this are sometime residents of Rubi-Ka, say "Hey" to ol’ Ebonsteel as he’s running by you on some mission for Omni Tech. I’ll happily chat for a minute with you.

Unless, of course, you’re Clan Scum. In which case I promise you a swift and painless demise. (Hey, who says I don’t know how to treat my fans?)

Glory to Omni-Tech!
Logan "Ebonsteel" DeAngelis

The Unstoppable Mr. E. - July 16, 2001

Since about a month after KU-2.com launched earlier this year, I’ve been talking about Efrem Alston, or Mr. E to his friends. A college buddy of mine from back in my Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale days, E has always been not only a friend, but also a personal source of inspiration for me. The man is never without a marker – doodling edgy little characters on any surface within arms reach. And strip after strip, character after character, his work always amazes me.

A little over a year ago, E was at work and just suddenly keeled over. A blood vessel in his head popped, sending one of my closest friends into a coma. Friends and family from all over the country flew to Orlando Florida to sit in the hospital with his wife and young daughter – waiting for his eyes to open, and the ever-present grin to return to his face.

Eventually, it did – and then came the long road to recovery. I know that I am only one of a multitude of people who were happy as hell to see this unique individual who has always been so full of life return to his old self again.

A lot of the short stories you have read here on KU-2.com have been archive pieces; and many of those were collaborations between myself and Mr. E: from his cameo in My Black Irish Love to his own creation Love Hurts, and of course this month’s political farce ACE! Adventures of a Young Republican Superhero, if you have been reading this site, you are already a fan of Mr. E’s – you just didn’t know it yet.

And now I invite you to visit the launch of Mr. E’s own site: www.cartoonin.com. A weekly updated cartoon site, featuring comic strips and short stories inspired by E’s youth in Brooklyn, NY. Cool. Urban. Edgy.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Unstoppable Mr. E.

I think I’m getting a migrayn. - July 9, 2001

Wow, time sure flies when you’re crushed under deadlines – that was the longest 24 hours I ever saw! Sorry about the lack of follow-up to last week’s "Stay tuned!" message, but it really was beyond my control. Here now, the news:

A very close friend of mine, Jay "migrayn" Mcleod has just launched www.migrayn.com – his own personal comic art showplace filled with toons, rants, reviews and more. Jay and I worked together at RPG, etc. , and his style is as cool as it is unique. A gamer like myself, Jay also does custom cartoons for folks, specializing in pics of their Online Game characters. Check it out now!

Stay tuned ... - July 2, 2001

There'll be some real news yappin at ya tomorrow - watch this space!
(And for now, just enjoy the comix.)

Go forth, my children! - June 25, 2001

After mentioning Warp 9 to Hell and Nate Piekos last week, I had a couple of folks ask me just what I do read regularly, online comics-wise. I only read a handful of dailies, and another nice slice of weeklys – most of which are already plugged on my Links page. But just for the sake of another nod to my personal faves, here is my list of webcomics I read regularly:

DAILY:
WEEKLY:
Two-Headed Tales (Wednesdays)
Supernatural Crime (Wednesdays)
Q-Balls (Fridays)
101 Reasons (Saturdays)

Of course, this list is always growing, and I have more that I hit whenever they update or whenever I remember to. And I will say that IMHO, every one of the links on my Links page are worth taking a look at when you get the time. Enjoy!

Spreadin' like a virus ... - June 18, 2001

We here at KU-2 Comics are proud of the fact that we’re spontaneously popping up like cuddly mold (or something) at various spots on the internet. (Then again, we ARE from New Jersey – home of unstoppable mutant fungi … just ask Nate Piekos). But our latest link luv came from one of our personal fave daily webcomics, Warp 9 to Hell. Thanks to Usagi and Mofo. If you’re reading me but not reading them, what the hell is wrong with you?

And why am I speaking using the "royal we?"

Enjoy the comics – I gotta fly. Someone keeps trying to scrape me up with a razor and some Simple Green.

Logan

Welcome back! - June 11, 2001

One week can feel like a lot longer sometimes … at least that’s how it seemed to me last week when I didn’t update KU-2.com. Oh sure, just a few short months ago I didn’t have any of this weekly update stuff to contend with. No deadlines, no worries about broken links or website maintenance. … Then again, my readership back then consisted of myself, my wife, my two kids and my dog. (I also have a couple of cats, but those little bastards never would take the time to read my comics).

But this past week I was really chomping at the bit to get to this Monday’s update – so much new material! A new monthly short called Talking Turkey (and it is pretty short, weighing in at only one page, but it’s a good-un!), a complete site redesign that I’m pretty damned happy with (like this front page News section, which will send my loving words to you all the more often, our new "subscription service" which can notify you when there’s new art here on the site, and the newly buffed Links page – check ‘em out now!), and the first page of the second KU-2 storyline, Up from the Depths!

So thanks for stopping by. Enjoy your stay, and I’ll be talking to you again really soon.

Aloha,
Logan DeAngelis

Day late, and a dollar short. - May 28, 2001

Well, not really. This is the first time that the KU-2 update won’t be going live on a Monday, but I really don’t consider it a late update. Today is Memorial Day here in the states, and I’m chillin’ and grillin’ with friends and family instead of working at my comp for the whole day. So by the time you read this, it’ll be Tuesday, May 29th. Don’t blame me, blame the three day weekend!

Big big stuffs coming next week, tho – including:
• The first installment in a new KU-2 storyline, “Up from the Depths.”
• A brand new monthly short story for the month of June (and it’s a biggun).
• And a total site re-design! New look, new funk, same old KU!

Like I said, big big update next week! Still want to cry that I’m a day late? ^^

Crack me a Sam Adams, I’m off to the BBQ!

And people say I talk too much ... - May 7, 2001

Anyone who knows me can tell you I'm a pretty vocal guy. Be it in person, in email or on one of the Forums I frequent, you can quite often spot my two cents from a mile away simply from the sheer volume of it. The funny thing is, since the launch of this website I have been strangely silent. The reason probably has something to do with the fact that I buried this News page so deep in the site as opposed to having it on the front page – a design and function I’ll be changing with the site’s upcoming facelift (more on that later).

The long and the short of it is, I can’t believe it’s been a full month since I posted anything here to the News. Hey, at least the comics keep on comin’!
The ongoing KU-2 story has finally hit it’s head of steam with the introduction of the title character, and I’m really jazzed about the weeks ahead! And of course, this being the first Monday update of a new month I’m spotlighting a new short story!

Love Hurts is another collaboration with my hombre Mr. E, last seen in a cameo appearance in last month’s short My Black Irish Love. The new tale is a fun lil’ monster romp with some teeth, written and penciled by E with finishes by yours truly. My wiseass partner in crime thought it funny to use my name and my wife’s name for the two characters in Love Hurts, and I left it as he wrote it … despite the nasty ending. Punk.

Look here on KU-2 for a big fat-ass link to E’s site when it launches sometime soon!

Okay, I’m outie – gotta go bark at the moon!

New Month, New Story! - April 4, 2001

Damn, has it been a month already? Well no, actually - it hasn't.

But that’s cool. The thing about launching this site on March 12th was that I knew that whatever short story I opened with would get a shorter run on the front page than subsequent tales. Call it calculated planning, but as much as I like The Secret Origin of Logan DeAngelis (Edward’s Story) – I didn’t cherish the concept of it being in the spotlight too long. Like I said I dig the piece, but it’s a bit too Frank Capra for me. I’m not that much of a nice guy – really! (excuses himself, goes to pet a puppy, play with his kids, rescue nuns from a burning orphanage and works for a while on that pesky cure for cancer)

Trust me – I’m a dick.

That’s why this month’s short story deals with something truly near and dear to my heart. No bleeding heart feel-good-story-after-school-special crap here! This is the heartwarming tale of a boy and his … beer.

Yeah, I admit it. I love beer. More importantly, I love GUINNESS. If you’re a Guinness drinker, you know exactly where I’m coming from. … And if you’re not a Guinness drinker, get the fuck off my website.

So without further ado, I welcome you to the original 8-page short story My Black Irish Love. Mad props to that force of artistic nature Mr. E for his guest appearance in the piece. (I’ll link to E’s new cartoon site when it launches later this month!)

Oh, and let's not forget page 4 of the ongoing KU-2 tale. It's finally picking up speed, and I can only hope you're enjoying reading it half as much as I am drawing it.

See you at the pub, folks - and mine’s a pint.
Logan

Welcome to KU-2 Comics! - March 11, 2001

Wow, folks – what can I say? It’s been a long road getting here, but it’s finally arrived: the launch of ku-2.com, my brand-spankin-new ongoing web comic!

Some of you may know me from my online work at such sites as Roleplaying Games, Etc and Azaroth.net, while some readers may have played beside me in Ultima Online or some other game. But a good number of you have no idea who the hell I am, and came upon this site on your own steam. To you I say read the comics, enjoy yourself, and if you’re curious, check out my bio to see just who is running this shindig.

KU-2 is going to be updated every week, while there will be new complete short stories the beginning of every month. And this is just the tip of the artistic iceberg!

In the coming months in addition to my work here on KU I’ll be unveiling some more projects that have been simmering on the back burner for far too long! And who knows, maybe there’ll even be some good old fashioned comic books coming out in the future …

It’s gonna be a fun ride, and I hope you stop by every once in a while to share it with me.

Cheers,
Logan
